RICK RACK, TIE DYEING & UFOs
WITH NANCY PARCELS
WITH NANCY PARCELS
September 18, 19, & 20, 2019
**Aside from enjoying time spent with friends hooking and chatting and eating, I started my "Rick Rack Journey" as Nancy likes to call it. At first, I was overwhelmed because I sorted out all of my #8 noodles and just had a big tangled mess of noodles with no idea of how to put them together in this rug. With Nancy's gentle guidance, I was able to sort out a "main" rick rack color and a color palate that appears pleasing to the eye. Of course I will not be able to use ALL of my noodles, but I will be able to use a lot of them. I really began to relax and enjoy the process on the third day when I became more comfortable with the zigs and zags. I had the most fun dyeing with silk neck ties! Nancy supplied everyone with a necktie and a piece of wool. We learned how to de-construct the necktie easily and roll it up in the wool like a sausage. We then put it into the dye pot. The results were very interesting with some of the patterns being replicated entirely onto the wool. Also I learned a good little trick for binding the corners of your rug! - Connie (Thanks to Connie for all the photos.)
**At home with several stalled rug projects, one dating back to 2006, I jumped at the opportunity to register for Nancy Parcels' class. She was very helpful in diagnosing and suggesting ways around the stumbling blocks in my UFOs. Her guidance and relaxed manner made it easy for us to work together. I returned home with a clear plan forward on all of my UFOs. I also very much enjoyed dyeing wool with a silk tie. Selecting our tie in a brown paper bag was super smart of Nancy. I really appreciated not having to be jealous of someone picking out a tie I would have wanted instead! I hope to one day take the rick-rack class somewhere with Nancy. These class rugs taking shape in the hands of other participants were beautiful. Her teaching of the three rows of binding a rug was excellent and included a tip for finishing corners I've never heard. - Betty
**I took her class and had lots of fun following her input on her zigzag rug. She took the fear out of doing it . We also got to experience tie dyeing. Good teacher . - Judy
**Nancy was great explaining step by step how to do the Rick rack rug, which is harder than it looks. She gave great finishing tips too. - Patti
